Premier League tips: Best bets for Sheff Utd v Arsenal

Jamie Griffith's tips for Monday Night Football at Bramall Lane include a comfortable win for the visitors with an assist for their star midfielder.

Third-placed Arsenal will be hoping to ramp up the pressure on Premier League title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City by winning against basement boys Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday night.

The Gunners will be feeling pretty confident after winning their last six Premier League matches and things could get ugly for the Blades, who boast the league’s worst defence.

Best bets

Arsenal -2 /
Kai Havertz to score /
Declan Rice to assist 1+ goal /

Gunners should fire against sorry Blades

If Sheffield United continue to concede at the rate they currently are – they have shipped 2.53 goals per game – then they will have no trouble surpassing Derby’s record of 89 goals conceded in 38 matches.

At their current rate, the Blades will go on to concede 96 Premier League goals by the end of the campaign and a visit from the league’s most in-form side is unlikely to bring the average down.

Arsenal have scored 15 times in their last three league games and have netted five or more times on three occasions this calendar year, suggesting they should have no issues putting plenty past their hosts for the second time this season, having won the reverse fixture at the Emirates 5-0.

Sheffield United have shipped 20 goals in their last five home games, allowing five in each of the last three, and the Gunners should be backed to land a convincing victory to top up their goal difference and keep the pressure on Liverpool and City.

Hotshot Havertz heading for more scoring success

The meeting between these sides at the Emirates saw Sheffield United struggle to contain Arsenal’s attack, specifically striker Eddie Nketiah who ended up netting a hat-trick, and this reverse fixture could see the same trend unfold.

Kai Havertz is likely to lead the line on Monday after finding his feet in north London and he could have some joy against a sorry Blades’ defence.

The German forward has scored in each of his last two Premier League games and has looked far more at home in the front three rather than in midfield, with his fine form likely to continue against the league’s leakiest defence.

Rice ready to provide some creativity

Declan Rice has added an extra string to his already loaded bow since moving across London to Arsenal, becoming somewhat of a set-piece specialist for the Gunners.

Rice has notched three assists in his last three league matches, while also scoring a stunning goal against his former club West Ham in that period, with his dead-ball deliveries getting better with every game.

Only Manchester United (128) have allowed more shots from set pieces than Sheffield United’s 122 this season and they have conceded nine times from such plays.

With Rice’s dead-ball quality and the Blades’ inability to defend well in those situations, it could be worth taking a punt on the England midfielder to notch at least one assist in what could be a free-scoring away victory.
