Premier League tips: Best bets for Liverpool v Man City

Jamie Griffith's tips for Sunday's massive top-of-the-table clash at Anfield include to anytime goalscorers in a thrilling affair.

Undoubtedly the biggest game of the weekend sees the top two in the Premier League go head-to-head as Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield.

Draw and Both Teams to Score /
Mohammed Salah to score anytime /
Phil Foden to score anytime /

Nothing to separate English giants

Just one point separates table-topping Liverpool and second-placed Manchester City going into Sunday’s massive meeting and there may be very little to separate the two sides again, with their reverse meeting at the Etihad ending in a 1-1 draw.

A win for either would almost certainly see the victors seize the initiative in the title race, so avoiding defeat may be the order of the day and a share of the spoils may be the likeliest outcome on Merseyside.

The Reds have won each of their last seven games at Anfield in all competitions, but they have failed to show strength defensively with their sole clean sheet coming against Southampton in the FA Cup, conceding to the likes of Championship outfit Norwich and two of the current bottom three – Burnley and Luton – in that run.

City are on an eight-game winning streak away from the Etihad stadium but have also shown defensive frailties which could be exploited by high-class opposition. The Cityzens failed to keep out Copenhagen in Denmark and on two separate trips to Kenilworth Road against the Hatters.

With neither side showing an ability to keep goals at bay, there may be plenty of work for Ederson and Caoimhin Kelleher to do throughout Sunday’s meeting, with eight of the last nine games at Anfield seeing both teams to score land as a winning bet.

Super Salah to score on his return

Multiple reports suggest that Mohammed Salah will be fit enough to return to the fray to face City on Sunday and recent meetings with Pep Guardiola’s men have shown that he can grab a goal when his side needs him the most.

The Egyptian winger has grabbed seven goals across Liverpool’s last 10 matches against the Cityzens in all competitions – including the sole strike in this fixture last season – and he leads the Reds in league goal contributions once again with 24 involvements this term.

Having been absent for a number of games through injury, Salah will be desperate to come back with a bang, and could be worth a punt at 5/4 to return his name to a Premier League scoresheet.

No stopping firing Foden

With Salah’s imminent return, City’s attack will have to be on their A-game if they are to counter the effects of the influential Egyptian.

The return of Kevin De Bruyne has provided an extra creative spark in the heart of midfield while Erling Haaland has been in frightening form again, scoring 18 league goals already this term.

However, winger Phil Foden could arguably be the most feared member of City’s star-studded squad at current, with the 23-year old scoring seven goals in his last seven appearances in all competitions and providing game-winning performances throughout this streak.

This goalscoring run includes a brace in the Manchester derby in his last outing for the Cityzens and the Englishman could well get another goal against a Liverpool defence that has been hampered by recent injuries.
