Brentford v Liverpool (12.30)

Liverpool shrugged off their 3-1 defeat at Arsenal with a win by the same scoreline against Burnley last weekend and the table-topping Reds should extend their lead with a win at Brentford.

The Merseyside club were deservedly beaten by the Gunners but they’ve won five of their last six league matches and four of their last five on the road, so they could take some stopping, particularly with Mo Salah available to make his return.

Brentford beat Wolves last week but the Bees have still lost seven of their last nine matches in the league and they fell to a 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at Anfield in November.

Fulham v Aston Villa (15.00)

Aston Villa were arguably hard done by in Sunday’s 2-1 loss against Manchester United but Unai Emery’s team have dropped their level in recent weeks, winning just one of their last six matches in all competitions.

The Villans’ sole win in that spell came against lowly Sheffield United and they could struggle to repel Fulham, who look overpriced.

The Whites have claimed seven home victories this term and could take advantage of Villa’s recent malaise.

Newcastle v Bournemouth (15.00)

Newcastle have snapped out of their Christmas funk, winning four of their last six matches with their sole loss coming in a hard-fought 3-2 reverse against Man City, and they should account for Bournemouth.

The Magpies haven’t given the St James’ Park faithful much to cheer in the league recently and haven’t won at home since mid-December, but they’ve claimed eight victories on their own patch this term and are still formidable on Tyneside.

Bournemouth are winless in five league games and heading in the wrong direction again.

Man City v Chelsea (17.30)

Two of the Premier League’s biggest financial powers clash at the Etihad but there has been a huge gulf between them on the pitch this season and that should be the case again when Man City host Chelsea.

The Citizens are in red-hot form, winning 11 matches in a row in all competitions including a 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League in midweek, and Pep Guardiola’s men are in relentless pursuit of Liverpool.

Chelsea have won their last two matches but they have lost on each of their last four trips to the Etihad and could be outclassed by the champions.
