Here are Tom Clee's football betting tips for Manchester City v Huddersfield.
Manchester City and under 3.5 goals
Huddersfield scored the joint-fewest goals of any top-flight team last season, so it’s hard to see them breaking down City, who had the division’s best defensive record last term and have started the new campaign with consecutive clean sheets.
However, given that a home win to nil is comfortably odds-on, the better value lies in backing a City win with under 3.5 total goals.
The Terriers drew 0-0 at the Etihad last season and were only beaten 2-1 at home thanks to a late, deflected winner from Raheem Sterling, so there’s a good chance that they’ll be able to keep it tight once again.
Fernandinho to score
Should that prove to be the case, then City’s deeper-lying players will be given more license to push forward.
Fernandinho scored against three of the bottom six at the Etihad last season in similar scenarios, so is a decent shout to find the net on Sunday – particularly if City resort to strikes from distance in order to try and overcome a tightly-packed defence.
Jonathan Hogg to be carded
Hogg was Huddersfield’s most-booked player last season with eight yellow cards, one of which came against this weekend’s opponents.
Presuming his team’s wing-backs get pinned back by City’s wide forwards, he could end up having a lot of ground to try and cover in midfield.
Over 7.5 Manchester City corners
City racked up nine corners against Arsenal last weekend, and the same number in this fixture last season.
That was one of nine occasions they earned eight or more at home, so it’s worth backing them to do the same in a game they’re bound to dominate.
