Here are four football tips that Will Rook thinks you should consider for Portsmouth v Oxford on Friday evening.

Portsmouth to win

Portsmouth’s record at Fratton Park is the only reason they are challenging for promotion. Kenny Jackett’s side have the best home form in League One, having won 12 and drawn six of 18 matches.

With or without fans, playing at home first should make a difference for them.

First-half result: Draw

This is likely to be a tight affair for a couple of reasons. Oxford were the form team in the league prior to football’s suspension, winning five on the spin, so they should at least match the hosts for long periods.

After three months off, meanwhile, it’s reasonable to assume players will take some time to re-acclimatise to competitive football.

BTTS: No

BTTS has landed in just two of Portsmouth’s last 10 league games and in just two of Oxford’s last six.

Both teams’ ratios rank in the bottom 10 in League One, with goals at both ends in only 46 per cent of their matches.

Alex Gorrin to be carded

Portsmouth and Oxford are the third and seventh-most carded teams in League One this season respectively. With players likely to be rusty after three months off, bookings should be expected.

Midfielder Gorrin looks like a prime candidate. The Spaniard has been booked 11 times in 31 league games this season – more than any other player in the third tier.
