Kieffer Moore (Barnsley) to score v Walsall

While reluctant to tip an odds-on bet, there is no safer goalscorer pick in the EFL this weekend than Barnsley’s Kieffer Moore at home to Walsall.

The 26-year-old is in relentless form, scoring six goals in his last three appearances, including a brace in last week’s 2-1 victory over Gillingham.

Walsall have kept just one clean sheet this season, last week’s 0-0 draw with Blackpool, and an away game against one of League One’s best attacks should see their defence exposed again.

Andre Green (Portsmouth) to score v Shrewsbury

To balance out that cautious approach, backing Green to net for Portsmouth is a calculated risk.

With Pompey’s leading goalscorer Ronan Curtis on international duty, there is a vacancy on the left wing that should allow the Aston Villa loanee to make his first league start of the season.

A player that Villa fans were disappointed to see leave after featuring in all of their first five matches of the season, Green has the ability to tear up League One this season.

Should he benefit from the chances that Curtis has had in front of goal, he should score.

John Akinde (Lincoln) to score v Crawley

Lincoln are proving themselves to be the best team in League Two, so don’t expect the goals to dry up for Akinde.

The summer signing from Barnet has scored four goals in six league appearances this season, notching his first from open play with a well-taken finish at Exeter last weekend. Having scored three penalties already, the goals are now coming from everywhere.

Managerless Crawley have conceded twice in each of their last three league matches, and in five of six overall. Akinde can prolong their misery.

Kevin van Veen (Northampton) to score v Cheltenham

Van Veen scored a brace in Northampton’s last home match against bottom-half opposition, so expect him to flourish against another struggling team on Saturday.

The Dutchman is one of the most natural finishers in the division, with those two goals against Cambridge following one at Carlisle a week earlier.

He can notch his fourth of the campaign against managerless Cheltenham, who have managed one clean sheet in nine matches in all competitions this season, and whose first-choice defence conceded four to a much-changed Forest Green in the EFL Trophy under caretaker Russell Milton on Tuesday.

Milton will be in charge again at Northampton.
