Champions League tips: Best bets for Real Madrid v Man City

Adrian Mills' best bets for Tuesday night's clash at the Bernabeu include goals at both ends with a Brazilian star finding the net.

Two of the best teams in Europe face off in the quarter-final stage of the Champions League on Tuesday, as the most successful side in the history of the competition face the defending champions.

Manchester City eliminated Real in the semi-finals last season, but Los Blancos are a different side to this time last year and they will be targeting a strong first-leg performance at the Bernabeu.

Bernabeu to host high-scoring affair

Real conceded four without reply in their last meeting with City, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side should be much more competitive this time around and, with both teams possessing extraordinary attacking talent, goals could be on the cards.

These two giants of the game have met six times in the past four years and there have been a total of 23 goals scored in those encounters, with six of them featuring at least three goals.

Not only that, but both have been at the top of their game recently, with Real scoring 10 goals in their last three matches and City netting eight in the same period, making for a potential thriller in the Spanish capital on Tuesday evening.

Vini to make the difference

Jude Bellingham has rightly taken a lot of the plaudits for Real Madrid this season, but Vinicius Junior has been just as important for Los Blancos and the 23-year-old Brazilian was afforded a rest at the weekend, meaning he should be at the top of his game on Tuesday.

Vini scored a brace in Real’s 4-2 win at Osasuna before the international break and has now found the net six times in his last four games, including in his last Champions League outing against RB Leipzig.

He has scored in both home Champions League appearances this season and scored his side’s only goal in their tie with City last season, so he looks a good bet to add to his tally.

Los Blancos can stay competitive

Real may have been beaten heavily at the Etihad last term, but they held City to a draw at the Bernabeu and look a far better unit than they did last term.

Los Blancos haven’t lost any of their last 35 competitive games and are unbeaten in over a year on home turf, while they have only lost one of their five home meetings with the Citizens.

Keeping Pep Guardiola’s men out entirely, however, is an unlikely prospect.

The visitors have scored in 33 of their last 35 matches in all competitions and the home team have conceded five goals across their last five matches.
