Aguero improvement ominous for Tottenham against Manchester City

While the Argentine has struggled for form, he remains the Premier League's best striker and has 10 goals in seven matches against Spurs

The end of Sergio Aguero’s five-game goal drought against Sunderland in the Capital One Cup in midweek will have pleased all Argentinians except one.

Mauricio Pochettino could have done with the Premier League’s best striker remaining marginally out of sorts for Manchester City’s visit to Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime.

Aguero tends to enjoy himself against the North London club, scoring 10 times in seven Premier League fixtures.

That stunning record includes bagging all four in City’s 4-1 home win last season and the game’s only goal in the reverse fixture.

The golden boot holder has struggled for form this campaign, though, finding the net only once in six league games.

Reaching the final of the Copa America with his country this summer is a contributing factor, while the impact injury he suffered against Crystal Palace two weeks ago was another disruption.

The 27-year-old was still not at his best at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday, missing several chances either side of scoring from the penalty spot.

But it was a goal nevertheless and he will be better for his 75 minutes of action.

Aguero is 13/2 to continue his fantastic run against Pochettino’s side by scoring first in a City win.

The visitors boast a stellar record against Tottenham, losing only once in their last 10 meetings and winning on three of their last four trips to White Hart Lane.

The league leaders, whose 4-1 victory over Sunderland was a stylish response to their first defeat of the season against West Ham last week, are 10/11 to claim all three points.

Despite being knocked out of the cup by rivals Arsenal on Wednesday, Pochettino’s side are playing well enough to potentially secure a positive result against Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

They are 3/1 to triumph, which would be their first over City since a Gareth Bale goal and assist inspired them a 3-1 win in April 2013.

And although not currently in possession of anyone nearly as good as the Welsh winger, in Heung-Min Son they appear to have a player other than Harry Kane who is capable of scoring.

The South Korean forward is the man most likely to breach a City defence that has kept five clean sheets and not conceded away from home in the league.

Son has scored three times already for his new club and is 7/1 to score in a Tottenham win on Saturday.

Like City, Tottenham are much-improved defensively and have kept clean sheets in their last three league games.

Their last four, meanwhile, have had under 2.5 goals and it is 11/10 for that run to be extended to five.

The clinical finishing of Aguero has settled many narrow games before, though.

It is probably going to be decisive once again.
