5 Europa League picks: Usual suspects to deliver midweek success

Sides from Spain, Italy and France require attention as the second half of the group stages get under way on Thursday

4/7 – Villarreal to beat Dinamo Minsk

Villarreal travel to Belarus to take on Dinamo Minsk aiming to win their third Europa League fixture in succession.

The Spaniards side are fifth in La Liga and beat Thursday’s opponents 4-0 at home two weeks ago.

Minsk, meanwhile, have lost all three of their group-stage games without scoring a goal.

1/4 – Napoli to beat Midtjylland

Napoli are one of only three clubs with a 100 per cent record in the group stages.

The Italians are unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions – a run that includes defeating Midtjylland 4-1 in Denmark two weeks ago.

The home side have won their last five at home and should cruise past their Danish opponents, who have lost four on the bounce in all competitions.

19/20 – St Etienne to beat Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk

St Etienne host Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on Thursday with both sides equal on four points after three matches.

The French side are second in Ligue 1 and beat Dnipro 1-0 away last time out.

The hosts have won three of their last four games in all competitions – losing only to Paris St Germain – while their Ukranian opposition have won just one of their last six in the Europa League.

30/100 – Athletic Bilbao to beat Partizan Belgrade

Athletic Bilbao can take control of Group L with a win against Partizan Belgrade.

Both sides are on six points coming into the game, although the Spanish side won 2-0 away in Serbia in the previous round of fixtures.

The hosts have won three on the bounce in all competitions and are unbeaten in five, while their opponents have won just one of their last four.

7/10 – Fiorentina to beat Lech Poznan

Fiorentina’s trip to Poland for the Group I clash against Lech Poznan is a must-win fixture.

The Italians are bottom of the group after losing at home to Thursday’s opponents two weeks ago, although a victory would move them within three points of top spot.

Paulo Sousa’s side won their previous away game in the competition 4-0 at Belenenses, while Poznan have only triumphed in one of their last six at home in all competitions.
