5 Championship picks: Buoyant Wednesday to clip the table-topping Seagulls’ wings

While Middlesbrough and Derby look set to continue their promotion push, Brighton and Hull may struggle away to two of the division's in-form sides

6/4 – Sheffield Wednesday to beat Brighton

Sheffield Wednesday’s memorable 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Arsenal was efficiently backed up by a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

The Owls therefore look great value to claim another scalp in the form of table-toppers Brighton.

Brighton’s excellent form this season has come predominantly at the Amex Stadium, having only managed to draw four of their seven fixtures so far on the road.

Wednesday are unbeaten in their last ten games – winning seven – and can capitalise on this momentum to deliver another excellent victory in front of their fans.

2/5 – Middlesbrough to beat Rotherham

Championship football rarely offers any certainties, but Middlesbrough to beat Rotherham looks as close to a banker as they come.

The title favourites have been utterly ruthless at home this campaign, winning six and drawing one of their eight games at the Riverside in all competitions so far, scoring 17 goals in the process.

Neil Redfearn’s side, on the other hand, currently find themselves bottom of the league having already conceded 27 times and won just once on their travels.

9/4 – Leeds and Cardiff to draw

Leeds United are still yet to register a win in front of their fans at Elland Road after seven home fixtures, and are unlikely to end that run against play-off chasing Cardiff City.

The Bluebirds hold the title as the indisputable draw specialists of the division, having seen five of their seven away games so far this term end in a stalemate.

A share of the points certainly looks the most likely outcome here.

4/6 – Derby County to beat QPR

With five wins from their last six games Derby County are the most in-form side in the division who look set to mount a third consecutive promotion challenge.

On Tuesday the Rams host QPR, whose last-minute winner in the play-off final two seasons ago denied them a place in the Premier League.

QPR have lost three away games in a row thanks in part to a leaky defence that has already conceded 23 times in total.

Revenge should be sweet for Derby.

9/4 – Brentford and Hull to draw

Hull have climbed to second place in the Championship table having taken 14 points from the last six fixtures, but Steve Bruce’s side face a tricky test against Brentford on Tuesday.

The Bees have won their last four games in a row, and have only lost at Griffin Park three times in the league.

The Tigers meanwhile have struggled to finish teams off on their travels, winning just three of their seven games on the road – and may have to be content with just one point on Tuesday.
