4 To Score: How the £225,000 was won last weekend
Two Betway customers claimed the jackpot after predicting the first player to score in four selected Premier League matches in our free-to-play game.
Two people shared the £225,000 rollover jackpot this weekend after winning 4 To Score, Betway's weekly prediction game.
Jon Elphick and Ian Smith split the money after correctly predicting the first goalscorer in four selected Premier League matches, with Riyad Mahrez's goal for Manchester City at Tottenham on Monday evening securing the prize.
Bournemouth's Callum Wilson, Chelsea's Alvaro Morata and Paul Pogba of Manchester United had previously opened the scoring in their respective matches, a combination unusual enough that Elphick - a double glazing fitter from Shoreham-by-Sea - thought he might have scooped the entire jackpot for himself.
"I picked those four players because I was trying to go away from the norm," he said. "I've picked players like Kane and Aguero in the past, but focused on second or third-favourites to score this week.
Tottenham fan Jon had not kept track of his picks over the weekend, though, and admits that he was initially "gutted" when City took the lead.
"The crazy thing is I'd forgotten about my selections, so when it came to Monday night I had no idea I was still in," he said.
"I was focused on supporting Spurs, so when Mahrez scored I was gutted - I had no idea he had won me just over £100,000.
"We bought a house last year, and it needs lots of expensive work that I was taking slowly. This has really helped us turn it into a dream home."
Smith, who took the other half of the stellar prize, was equally unaware of his victory.
"My selections were based on penalty-takers and in-form players, so I'd put the homework in," he said.
"But by Monday evening I hadn't realised I was one of 11 players in with a chance. I was working a night shift so didn't keep an eye on the game - I'm just overwhelmed."
Newcastle fan Ian, a warehouse worker from Gateshead, already has plans for his winnings, and hopes to enjoy even more success in the future.
"I joined Betway about two years ago as I liked the sign-up offer," he said. "I have the odd football bet each weekend.
"I'll use this money to treat myself at first, but I want to get on the property ladder and buy a house."
