Betway Premier League Rewind: Last year in Nottingham…

Week 8 Thursday 27 March 2014

Known as the 02 Arena last season, Dublin was the point where Simon Whitlock was finally put out of his Premier League misery after drawing with Wes Newton. Despite being a finalist in 2012, it had been a barren season for the Australian and he fell a week before Judgement Night. His opponent Newton survived another week, playing twice due to his illness in Week 6, losing 7-3 to Gary Anderson in his other game. Anderson was nervous himself, waiting on a call to find out whether his wife was in labour, but declared himself relieved to pick up the win.

Also on the night, Michael van Gerwen finally ended Peter Wright’s eight-week unbeaten run with a hard-fought match between the two. MVG eventually won 7-5 after Snakebite missed a Bullseye for a 161 finish at 2-2.

Elsewhere, Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld fought to a 6-6 stalemate, a scoreline also played out by Adrian Lewis and Dave Chisnall. On to Judgement Night then, where elimination awaits.

Full results:

Gary Anderson 7-3 Wes Newton
Adrian Lewis 6-6 Dave Chisnall
Wes Newton 6-6 Simon Whitlock
Michael van Gerwen 7-5 Peter Wright
Phil Taylor 6-6 Raymond van Barneveld
