Week Twelve. The Betway Premier League finally makes its stop in the Welsh capital as the Cardiff faithful welcome the final eight. The UK’s 10th largest city might be better known for its love of rugby and football, but when the darts rolls into town, everyone stops and watches. Expect a cauldron of intensity as the players fight for the chance to make the all-important top four.

Michael van Gerwen had his unbeaten record in this year’s Betway Premier League ended in Aberdeen by fellow Dutchman, Raymond van Barneveld, with a decisive 11-dart leg.

But the World No.1 remains top of the table by a single point after second-placed Dave Chisnall slipped to a 7-3 defeat against Phil Taylor, who, in his second match of the night, managed to gain another point against Stephen Bunting.

Elsewhere, a win for Adrian Lewis kept him in touch with his closest rivals, while Gary Anderson and James Wade shared the spoils, with the former coming from 6-2 down to win four straight legs and rescue a point.

Betway Premier League Rewind: Last year in Cardiff…

The last time the Betway Premier League arrived in Cardiff it played host to one of its most exciting evenings: Judgment Night. Wes Newton and Dave Chisnall battled it out between themselves to avoid elimination alongside Simon Whitlock. Chizzy emerged triumphant and secured his own survival with a 7-5 victory, sending Newton out for the second year running.

Robert Thornton, who also entered Judgement Night on six points but with better leg difference than his basement rivals, survived into the second phase of the campaign despite a defeat to Phil Taylor.

Elsewhere, high-scoring games between Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld (6-6), Michael van Gerwen and Simon Whitlock (6-6), the latter scoring with a stunning 160 checkout, and Gary Anderson and Peter Wright (5-7) meant it was a bumper night for the fans. Fingers crossed it’s the same in 2015.

Full results:

Gary Anderson 5-7 Peter Wright

Michael van Gerwen 6-6 Simon Whitlock

Adrian Lewis 6-6 Raymond van Barneveld

Wes Newton 5-7 Dave Chisnall

Phil Taylor 7-4 Robert Thornton
