Betway Premier League night seven picks: Anderson to struggle in home double-header

4/1 – Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis to draw

After a slow start to the tournament, Gary Anderson has won three matches on the spin.

He is still two points behind Adrian Lewis, however, who was exceptional in beating Peter Wright in Nottingham.

Jackpot actually beat Anderson on Saturday at a Pro Tour event that also saw him defeat Michael van Gerwen on his way to the final.

The Flying Scotsman has a great record against Lewis in this competition, though, and will have a passionate home crowd spurring him on.

With both men in fine form, a draw – which has been the result three times before between these two – looks a likely outcome.

8/15 – James Wade to beat Robert Thornton

Things are not going well for Robert Thornton in this Betway Premier League and they are unlikely to improve against James Wade on Thursday.

With a measly tournament average of 86.3, The Thorn is still looking for his first win having suffered two whitewashes already.

A dreadful Pro Tour this weekend, meanwhile, will only add to his misery.

Wade is in much better form following back-to-back wins over Dave Chisnall and Raymond van Barneveld in the Premier League, notching three-figure averages in both.

He has won four of his last five against Thornton and should improve that record against his good friend this week.

4/7 – Michael van Gerwen to beat Phil Taylor

This encounter between the current world No. 1 and the greatest player in the history of the sport promises to be a cracker.

Both players have won their last five Premier League matches in a row to move into the top two in the table, with just one leg separating them.

Yet while Taylor has been excellent, Mighty Mike has been simply sensational.

The pair met in Barnsley on Saturday with MVG winning 6-2 – the Dutchman’s eighth victory in their last nine contests.

Forget reputation – you would be mad to bet against the greatest player on the planet right now.

7/4 – Raymond van Barneveld to beat Dave Chisnall

Both Raymond van Barneveld and Dave Chisnall are currently closer to the bottom two than the top four and are in dire need of a win as Judgement Night creeps closer.

It will no doubt be a tight and nervy clash, but Barney should have enough to come out on top.

The five-time world champion has a winning record against Chizzy in the Premier League and has won the last two meetings between them.

In front of his adopted Scottish crowd, the popular Dutchman should have the edge.

9/4 – Peter Wright to beat Gary Anderson

There could be a shock on the cards in the last match of the evening with Gary Anderson having to return to the stage for a second time in one night.

With Anderson playing earlier in the night it is hard to predict how his first match will impact his performance, but there is no doubt that the disjointed preparation will prove disruptive.

Peter Wright had a brilliant day on Saturday, powering to a Pro Tour win with victory over Adrian Lewis in the final meaning his confidence will be high despite going three weeks without a win in the competition.

Snakebite has beaten Anderson in the Premier League before and won the last time these two met, and the Scotsman could well spring another surprise against his compatriot on Thursday.
