North America’s most chicken wing-obsessed cities have been revealed.

Chicken wings have become one of the most beloved comfort foods across North America.

However you like them, wings have earned their place as a staple of modern food culture and their popularity is only on the rise.

With this in mind and so many cities putting their own twist on this classic dish, the big question is: which cities are most obsessed by chicken wings?

New research from online casino Betway ranked the top 25 North American cities for chicken wings, analysing everything from the number of wing restaurants and demand for chicken wings to online feelings towards chicken wings and the number of top-rated restaurants in each location.

The results are now in, and while New York City takes the crown, plenty of other U.S. and Canadian cities made strong showings:

It’s no surprise that the city that never sleeps also never runs out of wings. New York City topped the rankings with a near-perfect score of 97.80 thanks to its endless variety of eateries that cater to wing lovers.

The Big Apple has the highest average search volume for chicken wings with approximately 8,100 a month. And thankfully this demand is more than met with over 236 wing restaurants dotted around the city.

Las Vegas is best known for its casinos and nightlife, but it also shines when it comes to chicken wings. The city ranks second with a score of 79.91, largely thanks to its 170 wing-serving restaurants and high consumer sentiment towards wings of 17%. There is also high demand for wings in the city with Google clocking up 2,900 searches for the term ‘chicken wings’ each month.

Toronto ranks as Canada’s number one chicken wing city with a total score of 79.42. Although better known for its multicultural food scene, Toronto boasts a crazy 170 restaurants serving wings and is also second in North America for chicken wing demand. That’s as the Ontario city averages 4,400 wing searches each month.

With a score of 74.29, Chicago ranks fourth in North America. Interestingly, the Windy City ranks third when it comes to top-rated chicken wing restaurants. It’s total count of 85 four-plus-star restaurants is only beaten by New York and Charlotte. Demand for wings in Chicago is also third for the U.S. and Canada, with its search average of 3,600 only beaten by New York and Toronto.

In fifth places comes Atlanta with a score of 74.16, followed by Canada’s second-best chicken wing city, Calgary. It’s worth noting that the Calgary population has one of the highest ‘sentiment scores’ towards wings of any city in North America. Its positive sentiment of 30% is only beaten by U.S. cities Memphis and Columbus which score 50% and 40%, respectively.

Chicken wings have grown from a humble bar snack into a food phenomenon that inspires passion across the United States and Canada.

Whether indulging in the variety offered by New York City, sampling Vegas wings after a long night, or tasting Toronto’s unique twists, it’s clear that the wing craze is showing few signs of slowing down.

The research proves that no matter where you travel across the U.S. or Canada, there’s a city ready to serve up a plate of wings that will leave you craving more.

Methodology

Using desk research, we gathered the best wing cities in US/CA. We then scored each city on the following metrics:

• Average monthly search volume for ‘chicken wings’

• Percentage of positive social media posts about chicken wings

• Number of chicken wing restaurants

• Number of top-rated chicken wing restaurants

Each city was then given a normalised score out of 100 based on how well it performed in the metrics above.
