Here are Guy Giles’ best cricket tips for the third Test match at the Ageas Bowl, starting on Friday.
Pakistan to win
Pakistan dominated the first Test before England’s mammoth fourth-innings effort, and also had some bright moments in the second Test before it was washed out.
Their bowling attack look to have England’s number, so if the batsman can back them up with some first-innings runs, then Pakistan have a great chance to draw the series.
Babar Azam to score over 31.5 runs in the first innings
Azam is one of the most consistent batsmen in the world, with his average slowly creeping up towards 50 with every Test appearance.
He has passed this mark in the first innings in each of his last six Tests.
Stuart Broad to be England’s top first-innings wicket-taker
Broad took four wickets in the first innings during the rain-affected second Test, and is the top wicket-taker in the series so far with 10.
There is a possibility that one of the England bowlers may be dropped for Jofra Archer or Mark Wood, but it is unlikely to be Broad considering his form.
Mohammad Abbas to be Pakistan’s top first-innings wicket-taker
Abbas’ control and seam movement make him the perfect weapon in English conditions, with his five wickets so far coming at just 19.40 apiece.
He got two wickets in the second Test before they shook hands, and a return to Southampton for the third means that form should continue.
