There’s been plenty of chatter about the Buffalo Bills after their huge 36-31 win in Houston over the Texans on Sunday, with the Detroit Lions on the schedule for Week 2 tomorrow night at the new Highmark Stadium in Buffalo.<\/p>\n

Dan Graziano of ESPN said Joe Brady of the Bills had the best Week 1 win of any new NFL coach because of a deep connection he has built with that team that goes beyond his abilities as a play-caller on offence.<\/p>\n

Hard to argue with that. In NFL betting<\/u><\/a>, after the Texans win, a team the Bills had struggled against, Buffalo\u2019s Super Bowl odds at Betway dropped to +850, second to the L.A. Rams, at +650.<\/p>\n

Bills quarterback Josh Allen went 20-for-29 on Sunday, for 334 yards and two touchdowns. Allen told the media his big goal this season is to protect the football more. On Sunday: zero interceptions, zero fumbles, 23 yards rushing, and two TDs on the ground.<\/p>\n

It was an MVP performance, which is why Allen headlined the moving markets list Sunday night, his MVP odds moving from +650 to +450.<\/p>\n

Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. EST tomorrow night. The weather forecast calls for warmer, humid, and wet conditions, including a thunderstorm.<\/p>\n

The Lions escaped with a 31-30 overtime win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.<\/p>\n

I look at two talent-laden offences, and two suspect defences, about to go at it, both teams scoring into the 30s in Week 1, and I expect a shootout in Buffalo tomorrow night.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"editor_block","content":"

At Betway, the Bills are -236 moneyline favourites at home, with the Lions at +185. Buffalo is a 5.5-point favourite at -110, while Detroit is +5.5 at -110. The total is 54.5 points, with the over and under both priced at -110.<\/p>\n

Those odds surprise me a bit, since Buffalo is being positioned as a substantial favourite. How much of that is the emotional edge for the Bills that will come when they run onto the field of their new stadium, in front of over 60,000 fans?<\/p>\n

The 54.5 is very high, and combined with Bills -5.5, the market is pricing Buffalo as superior at home in what should be one of Week 2\u2019s higher-scoring matchups.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"editor_block","content":"

Bills -5.5 (-110) is my preferred pick, factoring in home-field advantage and the Lions barely escaping the home-field win over the Saints while giving up 410 yards passing. The Lions now have to turn around in a short-week road game against Allen.<\/p>\n

With my NFL picks<\/u><\/a>, I\u2019m also taking the Over 54.5 at -110. Neither defence looked stable in Week 1, with Buffalo giving up 31 against Houston and Detroit giving up 30 against New Orleans.<\/p>\n

Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs is a great prop target for this week, after rushing 29 times for 156 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1. With Isaiah Pacheco sidelined after back surgery, Gibbs should continue to get most of Detroit\u2019s backfield touches.<\/p>\n

As of this morning, the Lions\u2019 injury list shows cornerback D.J. Reed, guard Christian Mahogany, offensive tackle Blake Miller, and guard Juice Scruggs as questionable.<\/p>\n

On the Bills side, linebacker Terrel Bernard, defensive tackle T.J. Sanders, safety Cole Bishop, and running back Ty Johnson are questionable.<\/p>\n

Safeties Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch were both placed on the reserve\/PUP list Sunday, and that\u2019s the most impactful piece of injury news going up against Allen and the Bills. The Saints\u2019 QB Tyler Shough feasted on the Lions\u2019 secondary, going a career-high 35-for-56, 410 yards and three TDs.<\/p>\n

If Reed can\u2019t play, that Bills\u2019 pick on the spread looks even better. The Lions blitzed a lot against the Saints on dropbacks, which gets them to the quarterback quicker, but Allen can extend plays, and in that scenario the secondary has to cover Bills\u2019 receivers longer.<\/p>\n

All that puts Allen passing-yards and passing-TD props in focus, too. Allen anytime touchdown scorer at Betway is -135 this morning. First touchdown scorer is +500. Allen to score 2+ touchdowns is +375. Last week he ran for two against Houston. I\u2019ll take Allen anytime touchdown scorer for tomorrow night.<\/p>\n

Key matchups bettors should focus on: Allen versus Detroit\u2019s secondary; Gibbs versus Buffalo\u2019s front seven; and an attacking 3-4 structure featuring Ed Oliver, Greg Rousseau, and Bradley Chubb up front, paired with Allen\u2019s mobility and a quick-throw, play-action offence with excellent protection by Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown, against Detroit\u2019s pass rush, led by Adrian Hutchinson, who had two sacks against the Saints.<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"editor_block","content":"

One that makes sense for me is the Bills moneyline, plus the Lions team total Over 23.5, since Detroit will put points on the board (+260 at Betway).
