He’s also the defending BMW champion.

In golf betting at Betway, the futures really bear that out. Scheffler is +275, followed by Ludvig Aberg at +1400, Rory McIlroy at +1400, Xander Schauffele at +1400, Tommy Fleetwood at +1600, Cameron Young at +1800, Sam Burns at +1800, Matt Fitzpatrick at +2000, Hideki Matsuyama at +2200, and Chris Gotterup at +2500, rounding out the top ten.

There are only 50 players, no cut, and after Sunday only the top 30 in FedExCup points advance to next week’s Tour Championship at East Lake Club in Atlanta. The purse is $20 million, with $3.6 million to the winner.

From a betting perspective, it’s the same approach I took last week, with some success: Do you ride the hottest player in golf at roughly 3/1, or use Scheffler’s short price to look for value further down the board?

So, do you bet Scheffler anyway because he’s playing so well and accept the smaller payout, with so much win probability concentrated in his price, or take advantage of guys like Burns at +1800, searching for value, with much larger payout potential if you think he and others have a realistic shot at beating him?

That’s intriguing, from a betting perspective.

For example, why not take the money you were going to put down on Scheffler and spread it out among Burns, Matsuyama, and Young to win?

Or take a look at the Top 5 futures market – Scheffler -150, Aberg +300, McIlroy +300, Schauffele +300, Burns +333, Young +350, Fleetwood +350, Fitzpatrick +400, Gotterup +450 and Matsuyama +450.

Burns to win is my favourite pick. Over the past few months, he’s been the hottest player on tour not named Scheffler, especially with his iron play, and you’re getting him at +1800. Burns has finished top 20 in six straight starts, including four top-four finishes.

Recent results include a T3 at the FedEx St. Jude (including a third-round 62), 3rd at The Open Championship, 2nd at the U.S. Open, T12 at Travelers, and T4 at the Memorial.

Matsuyama top 5 is a safer futures play. He’s posted four consecutive top-seven finishes. That also brings Group Play betting into play, if you like where Matsuyama’s play of late. Betway has Matsuyama (+425) in a group with Aberg (+275), Schauffele (+275), Fitzpatrick (+400) and Viktor Hovland (+425).

["GET
