He had previously been working with the New Jersey Devils. Unfortunately, the team went just 26-26-4 in the last 56 games of the season and missed the playoffs.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He is currently serving as Senior Advisor to the Coaching Staff for the Senators, and was inducted into the <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"editor-link Hyperlink SCXW51733809 BCX0\" href=\"https:\/\/ottawasporthall.ca\/2025\/05\/29\/congratulations-to-the-ottawa-sport-hall-of-fame-class-of-25\/\">Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame<\/a> in May 2025.\u202f<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"editor_block","content":"<h3><mark style=\"color: inherit; background-color: inherit;\" class=\"TextRun SCXW168291860 BCX0 pen\">DJ Smith: 2019 \u2013 2023\u202f<\/mark><\/h3>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"editor_block","content":"<p>Smith was brought in for a three-year contract to be the team\u2019s head coach in 2019, followed up with a two-year extension in 2021 running through the 2024-2024 season. The Sens lost in overtime, but spirits were high.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Boucher\u2019s second season, the team\u2019s rating plummeted to 30th place overall. Following Neilson\u2019s brief stint in his shoes, Martin returned to the bench and went on to drive the Sens to greater success than his predecessors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite wins in the regular season, the Sens continued to struggle for playoffs success.
