Boxing betting tips: Our 11/4 pick for Crawford v Khan
Jack Green predicts an exciting fight in his boxing tips for Saturday night;s fight in New York, with the WBO welterweight champion claiming victory.
Nobody can accuse Amir Khan of ducking tough fights.
The former light-welterweight world champion could have faced Kell Brook in the UK for a huge payday, but has instead opted to challenge one of the best fighters in the world.
Terence Crawford is the current WBO welterweight champion and former undisputed light-welterweight champion, and is No.2 on The Ring’s pound-for-pound world rankings behind Vasyl Lomachenko.
The American is unbeaten in 34 fights, with his last five wins all coming inside the distance, and he’s looked better than ever since moving up to welterweight in June 2018.
Crawford’s a daunting opponent for Khan who, at 32, is still trying to establish himself as one of the world’s best at 147lbs.
The 2004 Olympic silver medallist has won twice since he was knocked out by Canelo Alvarez in 2016, stopping Phil Lo Greco in the first round in April 2018 before outpointing Samuel Vargas the following September.
Khan was back to his best in that first victory – fast, skilful and ruthless – but looked laboured against Vargas and was dropped in the second round.
The Bolton man’s chin has always been a problem and it seems he still hasn’t fixed his dodgy defence, which doesn’t exactly bode well for his meeting with Crawford.
The champion is a precise, powerful puncher who, unlike most fighters, can probably match Khan for sheer speed.
He’s excellent defensively, and can also switch between stances.
There just aren’t any holes in Crawford’s game, so it’s hard to see anything other than a win for the 31-year-old Saturday night.
Khan’s style means it will undoubtedly be an exciting fight, but he’s been beaten three times inside the distance in his career and will likely be stopped again in New York.
At , Crawford to win between the seventh and ninth round looks a great bet.
